About Us
Welcome! We love Egypt, the people, & the culture. Now the food of Egypt, that’s a whole different story.
Egyptian dishes are now mainstream dishes all around the world. Did you ever eat falafel? What about shawerma or gyros? What about a piece of baklava or konafa? Halva maybe? Dolmas or stuffed grape leaves? Now if you answered yes to any of those questions, you ate like an Egyptian!
With a great Mediterranean shore at its north, Egypt shares those dishes with neighboring countries. And like spoken languages in different countries but with different accents, you can say that Egyptians have their own accent when it comes to those dishes.
We will also share with you unique dishes to Egypt only. We hope you will try them at home and maybe one day you’ll try them in Egypt too.
For Egyptians who already know our recipes, we hope that you will find the Food of Egypt a refresher on the dishes you love with a few twists on how to cook them or serve them.
I’m very thankful to my mom who always made the most delicious food to enjoy with friends and families. I remember calling her up and asking her for the recipes I long loved. She gave me some great instructions. We’ve worked together to create all those recipes. And she never shied away with her time or effort.
Also, all of this couldn’t be possible today without the support of my friends who always had the greatest comments about Egyptian food and always wanted more.
My favorite childhood memories are related to food: the smell of a dish initiating from the kitchen, spreading all throughout the house and down the street, the memories of relatives visiting in summertime and cooking their specialties. I had no idea that I was watching all of them carefully until I grew up and started cooking. I was surprised to find myself cooking many recipes without asking for directions. So finally, I’m thankful for my Creator who blessed me with this sense of Lazza to everything food.
Bon appétit, or as we say in Egypt …
